Brief:
Design the identity for the
elegant hypothetical restaurant,
‘The
Golden Section’.
Outcomes:
Menu, tabletop, placemat, napkin, wine bottle label and
the photos
of them all set up at the Bath Spa University degree show.
Description:
After researching golden section dynamic rectangles,
I devised my own grid based on the golden ratio.
I then constructed a menu based on this system. As the grid itself was quite beautiful I didn’t want
to remove it so
I kept it visible but
made it very subtle. In the case of the menu, the whole thing was silk-screened and the lines were created using a layer of varnish.
The lines were drawn in lead on top of several layers of grey paint for the tabletop, and sewn onto cotton for the napkin and placemat. In keeping with the theme of the golden ratio and geometry, everything was a perfect square, circle or a rectangle of the golden proportion. Photos were then taken of the table setting as it might appear in the hypothetical restaurant.
